The Truth About Cable Bundles Or How To Save Money On Your TV Service
by Ryan Cormac
So you fell into the trap of buying a bundle package from your local service provider. Well tell me this, and without looking at your current bill, how much are you paying for each service? Your television? Your internet? Your phone? That’s right you don’t know off hand and here’s why; the service company tricked you into thinking one bill is convenient. But how convenient is it? It’s like me saying “Your utilities for this month are $500.” Which utility just caused you to have a really high price? It’s the same with that bundle. After the provider’s promotional rate it jumps up by 50-300%, but what jumped so high? Let me break down your bill for you.
More than likely your bundle started off at $100 and your provider promised you that it would be that for 12 months. After those 12 months however everything increases. Your television goes to $60-$100 depending on your provider and you’re still getting just basic channels! You get nothing extra with your price increase No DVR, no extra channels, no nothing. That’s where you can start deviating from your bundle. Cut out the television service. Now you only have your internet and phone service.
After your promotional period your internet doesn’t increase in speed or contain anything different other than what you had had 12 months ago. If you started off with a 1Mbps package your stuck with a 1Mbps package at $60-$80 a month. How awful is that? Cut it out now you have a package after the promotional rate somewhere in between $60-$80 a month. But it’s not a package anymore, and you let me know when the phone company starts charging that much for service, because the fact of the matter is that no matter who else you get phone service with it will be cheaper than what you’re paying after a promotional rate. Better yet just cut out the home phone at all. Who needs it? You’re paying enough as it is for your cell phone. All you get with a home phone is a listed number for telemarketers to bother you during dinner. At this point you may be asking yourself, “Well then what do I do Ryan? I can’t just cut everything out and have nothing!” You’re right, you have to connect with the outside world somehow, right?
Seperate them, pure and simple. Do you really want to pay that much just for the convenience of one bill? If you really want only one bill to pay get a credit card and just point all of your services to that card and pay only the credit card bill. Ta-Da! All of your costs are reduced and you still get your one bill for just a few moments of set-up at the beginning. Now you may be asking yourself one last question, “Well Ryan since you know so much about the subject what do you suggest?” I’m glad you asked.
Personally for television service I go through Dish Network through an affiliate like dish programming or all digital channels. Actually Dish Network is my provider and I highly recommend them hence why my article is posted here. As for internet service find out who in you’re area offers FiOS internet, many Dish Network affiliates will be more than happy to help you fin something in your area, it’s very reasonable in price and very fast. When it comes to a phone I suggest not having a land line. If you absolutely positively need a home phone line get a VOIP service to add on to your internet. It is much cheaper than phone service and offers much more options.
