Prepping Your Home To Sell In Littleton
When a professional comes into your castle, she is trained to view your home from a buyer’s eye, is looking at is how appealing your home is to the potential buyer, and what changes she can offer to help showcase your home for that first impression. Some considerations might be; does the lawn need mowed? What condition is the mail box in? How about the front walks and steps?
Upon opening that front door, the the show begins often the buyer will make up their mind in the first 5 seconds. Does the home have odors? Is it clean? Is it Cold? Is it cluttered? Is there a collection of something overwhelming in the home?
My job as a interior designer has brought me to many homes, large, small, clean, dirty, old, new. I’ve seen a lot of weird things, but I hadn’t seen it all until I went to a custom homewhere there were hundreds of Buddha’s! The lamps were Buddha’s there were two 1000 pound Buddha’s in the home, one up stairs and one downstairs. How was I going to address this overwhelming collection without offending the homeowner? Well, a carefully chosen question I have learned to ask clients with strange scenarios that might leave me speechless or uncomfortable: “Mary, tell me about your interesting Buddha’s” “Tell me about” is a fantastic approach to a possibly sticky situation. I was expecting Mary to tell me that they worshiped these Buddha’s daily and that they were going to have to stay. My question opened the door to what ever the answer was going to be tactfully Mary didn’t worship the Buddha’s, she had lived in Tibet, and was fond of them, but knew without a doubt, that they would have to go, to stage her home. She already knew the answer, and I didn’t offend her with my question.
If you’re the homeowner listing your home and have a favorite collection, editing it, or minimizing your collection is key, to minimizing distractions for your potential buyer. Whether the distraction might be a collection or an odor, make sure these issues are addressed.
