Gas Mileage Improvements: Can You Win 10 Million Dollars?
Improve my gas mileage! If you listen closely, you can hear that demand echo through time since the start of the industrial age. Nearly 100 years have gone by trying to figure out the best way to do it.
Gas mileage devices have nearly doubled the gas mileage that cars can get over the last 75 years but progress has been painfully slow. Especially during that last couple of decades which have seen virtually no change.
The fix? The Auto X Prize competition has officially launched in March and is sponsored by the Progressive auto insurance company. The goal? The first 100mgp car and you can still get in.
A $10 million dollar prize is up for grabs folks and the first person or company who can demonstrate a 100mpg in cross-country races will take home the prize.
If you are up for the game, the competition is scheduled to being in 2009. So, if you think you can “improve my gas mileage” don’t just sit there, get to building!
The questions are, do you think you have what it takes? What exactly are the rules to win the cash and what is the goals that need to be accomplished?
To start with, the goals are fairly simple. We need to get off our dependence on foriegn oil. We need cars that are totally efficient and we need them to be environmentally responsible. Bottom line? Improve my gas mileage!
The car that will win needs to be an easy concept that is simple in design and straight forward to understand not to mention something that you and I can work on. That’s a switch!
It needs to be a car that will benefit the entire world and as such this will be global competition. Anyone anywhere can enter. No matter where you come from, your brains are welcome.
The car that wins must be something we can all buy. If your idea is still a concept car, that won’t work. It must be ready to be produced.
Some of the other rules are those such as only fair and non partisan contestants are allowed. If you are asking yourself what that is…you are pretty safe to enter. Also, fuel efficiency, performance, emission, safety and other issues need to be addressed.
Not to worry with those much though. If you can come up with it and it can be manufactured, then all you shade tree mechanics get on your grease gloves and get to work!
There are huge implication for this type of contest not only for the winner but also for the entire world as well!
