An impression, sadly often given by fishermen, that fly casting for beginners is almost impossible. It is a strange elusive art that requires many years of practice and it is quite impossible to learn so don’t even try. This is totally wrong and with the right equipment and a few basic flyfishing instructions, you should be able to cast the line quite reasonably within a few hours.

Before you have any chance of catching a fish you have to get the fly to it and your expert cast is only of use if you actually know where the fish is hiding and waiting for it’s meal. The behaviour of fish depends on the weather, the conditions of the river and also that strange something that makes them do exactly the opposite to what the theory says they should. This is one of the reasons that makes fly fishing such an fascinating sport.

Who knows what makes fly fishing such an enjoyable pastime. Too often you can spend hours in freezing water and at the end have nothing to show for your efforts. But then, just sometimes, they bite and that makes it all worthwhile.
